The Act of Seeing

My work explores the psychological distance between people through spatial relationships. This appears in the small distances between bodies and the thin air that separates people even when they stand close.

This sensitivity comes from growing up under other people’s eyes and unspoken rules. These experiences made me aware of how we observe one another, and how even familiar people can remain partial strangers.

I reconstruct brief moments from personal photographs, simplifying forms and using unstable lines or shifting depth to reflect the movement between closeness and distance.{

In my paintings, different ways of looking overlap: a figure looks at another, the viewer looks at the figure, and sometimes the figure seems to look back. Through this, I explore the fragile space where closeness and distance keep shifting.
